The Bonne Vie Pumpernickel Sourdough is made with whole grain rye flour along with cocoa, molasses and caraway seeds. Del;icious on its own or paired with some tasty smoked salmon.
Pumpernickel is believed to have originated in the Westphalia region of Germany in the 1400s. It is a heavier bread as the primary flour is rye which has significantly less gluten than wheat flours. There are different variations of this bread, with ours containing rye flour along with molasses, cocoa and caraway seeds.
